SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Pushing Boundaries: Creative Expression Through Art
DESCRIPTION:Creative expression is infinite and there are no boundaries.  There is no better way to illustrate that\, than by trying different forms of art from around the world and across history. From Gyotaku (traditional Japanese fish printing)\, to Pop Art\, students will explore their own creative expressions through the lens of four\, very different art styles. The class will allow students to try different techniques\, while learning about their historical context. At the end of the fourth and final class\, we will host a gallery show for friends and family. Students will be encouraged to give a brief presentation on one of their favorite pieces/processes. DESCRIPTION:Looking to level up your Mountain Bike skills? Come ride the Woodward Mountain Park with an experienced MTB Coach and an emphasis on improving your skills. This program will be for intermediate to advanced riders (familiar with riding lift-served flow trails) only between the ages of 11-15yrs old. DESCRIPTION:Dates: Monday\, September 12th and 26th\, 1:30-5:00pm \nCome sail this fall with Park City Sailing for 2 keelboat sailing lessons at the Jordanelle Reservoir! Open to new and returning students. Instructors will review sailing basics and expand sailing skills for returning students. This is also a great opportunity for any new or experienced sailors interested in regional sailing team opportunities. Also\, check out our kayaking class which is offered on alternate days (Sep. 19th\, Oct. 3rd) \nTransportation is provided from Timpanogos and Rocky Mountain Middle School. DESCRIPTION:Dates: Monday\, September 12\, 19\, 26\, October 3 from 2:30-3:30pm at the FitStop \nThe FitStop Youth ACTiV8 program is a wonderful program where kids will get to experience and learn a variety of activities. These activities will include mixed martial arts\, indoor climbing\, and indoor cycling. Children will rotate weekly between activities. \nMMA (Martial Arts Self Defense) – The Progressive Defense Tactics instructional system is more than just physical self defense. It integrates the mind-body-spirit approach to personal protection. This approach to Personal protection gives participants an edge over others. Empowering youth and teenagers through defense classes will help them develop effective defensive strategies and gain confidence. \nThe Crag Climbing Wall – Kids will learn the basis of climbing techniques as well as learning how to safely climb in an indoor environment. Along with climbing\, they will learn how to tie into harnesses and climb on rope\, climbing technique\, equipment\, safety\, problem solving\, trust\, teamwork\, strength and endurance\, along with so much more. \nCycling- These Indoor cycling classes consist of timed drills and profiles. SUMMARY:POSTPONED - ACTiV8 Wasatch Introduction to Kayaking Fall 2022
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to offer a 2 week flatwater kayaking class at Deer Creek Reservoir with Wasatch Whitewater. Also\, check out our sailing class which is offered on alternate days (Sep 12th\, Sep 26th). \nDates: Monday\, September 19th and October 3rd from 2:30 – 4:30pm \nNo transportation is provided. Parents must drop off and pick up students from Deer Creek Island Beach day use area. \nThis class is geared towards understanding the basics of kayaking. A good foundation of skills and knowledge of equipment will help to set you up correctly for successful paddling. You will learn paddling strokes and boat control. You will also learn how to keep yourself upright using bracing techniques and your options if you find yourself upside down. This class will also visit the introduction to the roll. \nParticipants need to be comfortable under the water because they will be practicing flipping upside down in a kayak while holding their breath. They will then need to get out of the boat and swim to the surface without panicking. This takes a few seconds. Because of this a swim test is required. \nParticipants must complete the swim test with a local lifeguard. Download the swim test requirements here. Also\, fill out this waiver. Email the swim test and the waiver to Amanda Sorensen\, amanda@ysausa.org\, before the first session. Your child will not be able to participate until both are completed. \nWasatch Whitewater Provides: kayaks\, paddles\, kayak skirts\, helmets\, life jackets\, and semi-dry jackets. \nRequired Gear: Water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, swimsuit (something able to get wet)\, and dry clothes for after the lesson. Long underwear/synthetic shirt to wear under the semi drytop. Appropriate footwear (MUST stay on while swimming\, wetsuit booties\, river shoes\, sport sandals or old tennis shoes will work). We’re a feeder program for the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation. As part of the tryout\, participants will first do a track walk with their coach to get an idea of how to steer a sled on ice. Next\, they will take two runs on a skeleton sled from the Tourist start (entrance of curve 11). \nThe program runs for 3 consecutive Fridays with registered participants sliding on all three of the dates. After the program concludes athletes are then welcome to continue training with the UOP Youth Sliding Program (meets on Wednesdays and Saturdays). \nUOP Waiver MANDATORY- UOP Sliding- https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/e/MsWviN6XaKjbR9cwy3nWRM/ \nEquipment: The Utah Olympic Park will provide skeleton sleds\, helmets and elbow pads. These activities will include mixed martial arts\, indoor climbing\, and indoor cycling. Children will rotate weekly between activities. \nMMA (Martial Arts Self Defense) – The Progressive Defense Tactics instructional system is more than just physical self defense. It integrates the mind-body-spirit approach to personal protection. This approach to Personal protection gives participants an edge over others. Empowering youth and teenagers through defense classes will help them develop effective defensive strategies and gain confidence. \nThe Crag Climbing Wall – Kids will learn the basis of climbing techniques as well as learning how to safely climb in an indoor environment. Along with climbing\, they will learn how to tie into harnesses and climb on rope\, climbing technique\, equipment\, safety\, problem solving\, trust\, teamwork\, strength and endurance\, along with so much more. \nCycling- These Indoor cycling classes consist of timed drills and profiles. DESCRIPTION:Dates: Mondays from 2:30 to 3:30pm on October 24\, 31\, November 7\, and 14 \nThe Soldier Hollow biathlon experience provides a taste of biathlon competition on the 2002 Olympic Biathlon Range in Midway\, Utah. During the 4-week session\, participants will learn firearm safety and the fundamentals of marksmanship using German air-rifles. The second half of the course will introduce shooting with a heart rate and will culminate with a fun mini competition. You must fill out this Soldier Hollow waiver BEFORE the first day of the program. Your child will not be able to participate until it is completed. Transportation is not provided. Parents will need to drop off and pick up at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center. This program will happen rain or shine\, and there will be no refunds for bad weather. SUMMARY:SOLD OUT!!!  Luge - Three Week Program
DESCRIPTION:Dates October 28\, Nov 4\, Nov 11 \nThe US Luge Association/Youth Winter Sports Alliance After School Luge Program is designed specifically for youth ages 8-13 (minimum height 52 inches)\, who have never been on a sled before. This program can lead directly to on-going training opportunities with the Wasatch Luge Club’s Youth Training Program and national level competitions. \nAll athletes start at curve 12\, the lowest point available on the track to run sleds. Here we take the first few runs on the last 4 curves (bottom ¼) of the track. Once everyone is comfortable we move up the track to the Tourist Start (one curve and straightaway higher). \nThe program runs for 3 consecutive Fridays with registered participants sliding on all three of the dates. After the program concludes athletes are then welcome to continue training with the Wasatch Luge Club’s Youth Training Program (meets Saturday nights). \nTransportation to the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) and athlete pick up from the UOP after sliding will need to be done by parents.  All athletes (students) need to be at the UOP by 2:00 PM. They will slide from 2:30-4:00 and be available for pick up at 4:00 PM. SUMMARY:Ecker Hill ACTiV8- Stone Carving!
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to partner with Let’sCarveStone for a new ACTiV8 activity. Let’sCarveStone is a miniaturized version of stone sculpture. Students will use steel rasps (steel files for marble stone sculpture) on Utah alabaster that is cut into small triangles\, rectangles\, and squares allowing each carver to create simple shapes and animals easily.   \nEach week the instructor will have a specific carving such as a chess piece\, a sea turtle\, a dragon\, an elephant\, etc.  The 4th and final class will be up to the students to try something personal for them\, which they will start to plan at the end of the 2nd class.  \nScholarships:  \n\nRegular scholarships are available for students with families earning less than $50\,000 annually. DESCRIPTION:Dates: Monday\, November 28\, December 5\, 12\, and 19 at 1:30-2:30pm \nLocation: Rocky Mountain Middle School \nStudents will learn the fundamentals of boxing in a supportive and encouraging environment through 4 weeks of 1 hour sessions. The session will cover footwork\, punching technique\, combinations\, rules of boxing and application of the sport. Students will develop skills in a non-contact environment that will give them an understanding of the sweet science. In this course\, they will learn: \nHow to use manual mode to create an evocative image.How shutter speed\, aperture\, and image composition work together.How to recognize and take advantage of beautiful natural light. \nIn this course\, they’ll develop the skills and confidence they need to go out and take great photos.  \nCameras will be provided for this program but if you have your own DSLR camera you are welcome to use it. DESCRIPTION: Cross country skiing is a great way to build fitness and enjoy being outdoors with friends. The ACTiV8 Cross Country Skiing program is specifically designed to build ski skills and confidence in a fun environment! The sessions are intended for students who want to learn the fundamentals of cross country skiing through games\, drills\, and skiing with peers. \nPlease fill out this waiver. Your child will not be able to participate until it is completed. \nDates: Mondays from 2:30 to 3:30pm on November 28\, December 5\, 12\, 19 \nTransportation is not provided. Parents will need to drop off and pick up at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center.
