DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT! Skiers/Riders must be at a MINIMUM of an intermediate level to participate in this program (i.e.\, must be able to parallel ski on blue runs or above).  Please reach out to us if you have questions regarding ability level before registering.  \nThis program is an introduction to freestyle/freeski or freestyle snowboarding that takes place at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) for students who are intermediate/advanced skiers or riders. Participants will choose either freestyle/freeski or freestyle snowboarding. Instruction provided by Park City Ski and Snowboard (PCSS). \nFreestyle/Freeski: Explore the terrain parks and mogul courses at the Utah Olympic Park\, the training grounds of the US Ski Team\, with knowledgeable and experienced coaches from PCSS’s Freestyle All Skills Team. Intermediate skiers will ride a range of freestyle/freeski terrain as an introduction to slopestyle and mogul disciplines. Athletes will learn and hone basic skills in the following areas: skiing switch (backwards)\, sliding rails and boxes\, hitting various sized jumps (incorporating basic tricks like grabs and spins when ready)\, and maintaining an aggressive stance while finding rhythm in an entry-level competition-style mogul course. \nSnowboard: Get started in the exciting world of Freestyle Snowboarding at the UOP with incredible terrain and incredible coaches. The UOP offers a variety of jumps and boxes to fast-forward your riding and have some fun on the hill with some new friends. Coaches will focus on skill development and some freestyle terrain. DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited to offer a four-week art class taught by artist Morgan McCue at Ecker HillMiddle School for 6th-8th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program. \nDates: Fridays March 6\, 13 27\, April 3 from 1:40-3:15pm \nLocation: Ecker Hill \nPet Portraits Through History: An Artistic Journey \nAnimals have appeared in art for thousands of years\, serving as companions\, symbols\, and beloved subjects for artists around the world. In this painting class\, we’ll explore the fascinating history of pet portraiture—starting with some of the earliest depictions of domesticated animals. \nUsing history as our backdrop\, you’ll learn to paint your own pet portraits inspired by different historical styles and artistic traditions. We’ll explore various approaches to composition\, color\, and technique—while discussing how pets have been represented through time. \nYou do not need to own a pet to enjoy this course—just a love of animals\, history\, and the creative process. \nScholarship Availability:  We want to provide the opportunity for as many kids as possible to participate in our programs. SUMMARY:BRASS 101 Intro to Avalanche Safety Education
DESCRIPTION:  \nCome learn about basic avalanche safety education with the BRASS 101 program. Hosted by Youth Sports Alliance and Park City Ski and Snowboard\, this BRASS sponsored program is for 6th grade and up and filled with potentially life-saving information. This 90-minute program will introduce you to the basics of avalanches and risk mitigation. The curriculum is presented by certified avalanche instructors\, Sam Macomber and Anna Marno and includes: \n\nBasic snow science showing how the conditions for an avalanche can take shape\nRed flags that could indicate elevated avalanche danger\nMitigating risk: accessing and interpreting avalanche forecasts\, selecting good terrain\nMaking good decisions\nSafe travel rituals when moving through avalanche terrain\nOpportunities for further education\n\nOur goal is to provide you with a basic understanding of the risks you can encounter\, and how to mitigate that risk. DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited to offer a three-week keelboat sailing program for 6th-12th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program. \nDates: Fridays\, September 11\, 18 and 25th\, pickup 1:35\, return at 4:15  \nCome sail this spring with Park City Sailing for 2 keelboat sailing lessons at the Jordanelle Reservoir! Open to new and returning students. Instructors will review sailing basics and expand sailing skills for returning students. DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance\, Lindsey Vonn Foundation\, and Winter Sports School are excited to once again partner for Grit & Guidance\, an interactive workshop designed to help students build confidence\, resilience\, and leadership skills both on and off the field of play.  Grounded in the Lindsey Vonn Foundation’s social-emotional learning curriculum\, participants will engage in hands-on activities\, small-group discussions\, and guided reflection as they explore what it means to navigate challenges\, persevere through setbacks\, build healthy relationships\, and lead with confidence. DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited for this brand new program opportunity and to team up with Salt City Swords\, an organization dedicated to teaching fencing and swordsmanship. \nDates : Fridays December 4\, 11\, 18 \nTime: 1:40 – 4:15 (Instruction will be from 2:30-3:30 PM at Salt City Swords) \nLocation :  Salt City Swords – transportation will be provided from Ecker Hill and back \nDiscover the excitement of fencing\, one of the fastest and oldest sports in the Olympics! This four week course will cover the basics of modern-day sword fighting\, including footwork\, blade work\, rules\, etiquette and basic tactics. Students will develop coordination\, confidence\, speed\, and agility while discovering the intricacies of this fascinating sport under the guidance of expert instructors. \nWhat to Bring: Water bottle\, athletic clothing and footwear \nProgram Chaperone:  Our programs cannot run without parent volunteers. If you volunteer\, your student participates for FREE (you will be refunded the price of the ticket).  Please choose a chaperone ticket (and use your student’s information on the ticket) below to sign up.  You must commit to the full 3 week program. \nScholarship Availability:  We want to provide the opportunity for as many students as possible to participate in our programs. If your child qualifies for the free and reduced lunch program and/or your family earns less than $50\,000 annually\, please select a Scholarship ticket to complete your registration. If you do not qualify for free and reduced lunch but earn less than $120\,000 annually and the registration fee is a burden for your family\, you may qualify for a partial scholarship. Please complete the Partial Scholarship Application linked here to help us understand your financial challenges. The information you choose to share with us is confidential and will be used only for purposes of determining your eligibility for a partial scholarship.
