DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited to offer a four-week introduction to boxing program with Rise Boxing for 6th-12th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program. \nDates: Mondays\, Mar. 23\, Apr. 6\, 13\, 20 \nTime: 1:30-2:30pm \nLocation: Timpanogos Middle School \nStudents will learn the fundamentals of boxing in a supportive and encouraging environment through 3 weeks of 1 hour sessions. The session will cover footwork\, punching technique\, combinations\, rules of boxing and application of the sport. Students will develop skills in a non-contact environment that will give them an understanding of the sweet science. Students will get to see the discipline and skill required for boxing in a safe and controlled environment and will develop a base level of skill over the course of the session. \nScholarship Availability:  We want to provide the opportunity for as many kids as possible to participate in our programs. (Park at the High School and catch public transport to the Transit Center)\, please make sure you leave enough time. \nStudents will walk down Main Street and finish at the corner of Main and 7th Street.  Parents should determine a meeting spot or walk with their children in the parade; we anticipate the parade will end 5:20-5:30. DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder what it would be like to teach skiing or snowboarding? Here’s a great way to find out! Participate in the Junior Instructor Program\, sponsored by YSA and the Professional Ski Instructors of America – American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI). \nLearn what it’s like to work as an instructor and earn a nationally-recognized certificate that can open the door to teaching at a local resort. \nTo participate in this course you MUST complete all sessions.\nDates: \nApril 6th-8th from 9:00AM-4:00PM   Arrival Time: 8:45AM Instruction Time: 9:00-12:00 & 1:00-4:00 Each day  Lunch: Lunch  is free time from 12:00-1:00. Please bring a home lunch\, or money to purchase a lunch in our lodge. Students will be able to eat lunch in our ski school lunchroom if they would like. Gear: Participants will be responsible for bringing their own personal gear. Must be able to consistently control speed and turns on Green Terrain. Able to come to a complete stop on green terrain. Junior Instructor Certificate E-Learning Course: Participants will need to complete the required E-Learning courses prior to the on-snow learning section. (3 Courses\, 3 estimated hours). We ask that YSA facilitates this outside of the Ski and Ride School\, however they would like. I think it’s reasonable for students to be assigned this course work 1-2 weeks prior and tasked to work on it in their own time\, sending confirmation of completion to YSA to be tracked. If it’s needed\, I’m happy to write an outline or record a video giving instruction on how to navigate the website and which courses to complete for guidance that participants can be sent. Letter of Intent: Participants will need a letter of intent prior to the program start. Ceremony: Students who have completed all the required materials will receive a certificate of completion\, and a JR Instructor Certification Pin. \nTaking Part In This Program: \n\nMakes you a better skier or snowboarder\nConnects you with others who share your snowsports passion\nHelps you develop important career and life skills\, such as: Communication\, Dedication\, Discipline\, Independence\, Instruction\, Leadership\, Group management\, Professionalism\, Public speaking\nGives you a solid foundation of skills to help you work in the snowsports industry during and after high school.\n\nProgram Requirements \n\nParticipate in 2 hours of classroom learning including three online learning units.\nComplete a 12-hour training course on snow at a local resort. Lift tickets will be provided for on snow sessions.\nShadow 6 hours of lessons at the resort’s ski and ride school.\nDemonstrate a minimum sliding ability in 2 areas: 1) Must show the ability to safely ski or ride in a group on blue terrain. 2) Must have the ability to maneuver safely in a learning area and around all surface lifts or up/down hills and trails.\nComplete the course portfolio and have it signed by a snowsports supervisor.\nWrite and submit a letter of intent that describes why you want to become a snowsports instructor. DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance is excited to offer a four-week mountain biking program for 6th-12th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program. \nThis program is for participants who are beginners on trails\, and not for beginners on bikes as students should already know how to ride a bike and may have ridden some trails. We have teamed up with Young Riders who will be providing the coaching staff. The program covers beginner single track trails\, climbing\, descending\, obstacles and safety on the trails. \nDates: Mondays. Apr. 27\, May 4\, 11\, 18 \nTime: 2:30 to 4:30pm \nLocation: Jordanelle Ridge Trail System (often referred to as Coyote) at UVU\, 3111 College Way\, Heber City \nTransportation is not provided. Parents will need to drop off and pick up at the Jordanelle Ridge Trail System at UVU. This program will happen rain or shine\, and there will be no refunds for bad weather. \nRequired Equipment \n\nBike\nHelmet (required\, your child will not be allowed to ride without a helmet)\nShoes and socks (no open-toe sandals)\nAthletic clothing\nProtective eye wear (sunglasses are best)\nCycling gloves\n\nVolunteers: Our programs depend on volunteers to keep them running smoothly and affordably. For our mountain biking programs we need volunteers to ride as sweeps each week to ride at the back of the group. All volunteers must pass a background check. Open to new and returning students. Instructors will review sailing basics and expand sailing skills for returning students. This is also a great opportunity for any new or experienced sailors interested in regional sailing team opportunities. \nTransportation is provided from Timpanogos and Rocky Mountain Middle School. We have teamed up with Young Riders who will be providing the coaching staff. The program covers beginner single track trails\, climbing\, descending\, obstacles and safety on the trails. \nDates: Mondays\, September 14\, 21\, 28\, October 5 \nTime: 2:30 to 4:30pm \nLocation: Jordanelle Ridge Trail System (often referred to as Coyote) at UVU\, 3111 College Way\, Heber City \nTransportation is not provided. DESCRIPTION:Registration closes Sunday\, Oct. 11 \nThe Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited to offer a special 1 day experience for 6th-12th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program at Zipline Utah. \nDates: Monday\, Oct. 19 from 1:30-4:30pm (program is from 2-4pm)  \nLocation: Zipline Utah\, Rainbow Bay\, Deer Creek State Park (transportation included from Timpanogos and Rocky Mountain Middle Schools) \n\n\n\n\nCome tackle one of the largest and most challenging ropes courses in the country\, and feel the adrenaline rush of ziplining off an 80-foot tower! Do you have what it takes to conquer all five levels? The Adventure Aerial Park is an open-air obstacle course\, suspended up to 70 feet in the air. As you climb\, each level increases in difficulty\, testing your skills and determination. This experience also includes two 600-foot ziplines and five smaller aerial bridges. Participants must weigh less than 250 lbs. \n\n\n\n\nTransportation is provided from Timpanogos and Rocky Mountain Middle School. Bus will pick up students immediately after school at Timpanogos and then pick up at Rocky Mountain before heading to Zipline Utah at Deer Creek State Park. \nBus Chaperone: To run this program with transportation we need a parent bus chaperone for each school. Chaperones will meet the students at the school and ride the bus to and from Deer Creek. SUMMARY:ACTIV8 Creative Expression Through Art - Timpanogos Middle School
DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited to offer a four-week art class taught by artist Morgan McCue at Timpanogos Middle School for 6th-12th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program. \nDates: Mondays\, Oct 26\, Nov 2\, 9\, 16 from 1:30-3:00pm \nLocation: Timpanogos Middle School \nPushing Boundaries: Creative Expression Through Art \nCreative expression is infinite and there are no boundaries. There is no better way to illustrate that\, than by trying different forms of art from around the world and across history. From Gyotaku (traditional Japanese fish printing)\, to Pop Art\, students will explore their own creative expressions through the lens of four\, very different art styles. The class will allow students to try different techniques\, while learning about their historical context. At the end of the fourth and final class\, we will host a gallery show for friends and family. Students will be encouraged to give a brief presentation on one of their favorite pieces/processes.
