SUMMARY:Intro to Whitewater Kayaking
DESCRIPTION:Come out and try stand up paddle boarding with Wasatch Whitewater on Jordanelle Reservoir! Day one in a kayak is geared towards understanding the basics of kayaking. A good foundation of skills and knowledge of equipment will help to set you up correctly for a successful paddling career. This first class is an introduction to paddling your kayak on the lake. We will spend the first hour going over equipment and outfitting boats to fit each student. You will then learn paddling strokes and boat control. You will also learn how to keep yourself upright using bracing techniques and your options if you find yourself upside down. Learning to properly wet exit or bow rescue is an important skill to have as a kayaker. This class will also visit the introduction to the roll. Kayaks\, paddles\, helmets and lifejackets will be provided.  You will need to wear a swimsuit\, and bring water\, a snack\, sunscreen and shoes or sandals that will stay on in the water. No experience necessary. DESCRIPTION:Join us welcoming home our 2026 Olympic and Paralympic athletes! \nBe at the Top of Main Brew Pub parking lot at the top of Swede Alley at 4:30pm. Parade starts at 5:00pm sharp. (Park at the High School and catch public transport to the Transit Center)\, please make sure you leave enough time. \nStudents will walk down Main Street and finish at the corner of Main and 7th Street.  Parents should determine a meeting spot or walk with their children in the parade; we anticipate the parade will end 5:20-5:30. Join the festivities after the parade with a presentation on Lower Main 5:30-6:00 with autographs 6:00-7:00. \nPlease note the Youth Sports Alliance is not responsible for your child during the walk down Main Street\, Park City in the parade.

SUMMARY:BRASS 101 Intro to Avalanche Safety Education
DESCRIPTION:  \nCome learn about basic avalanche safety education with the BRASS 101 program. Hosted by Youth Sports Alliance and Park City Ski and Snowboard\, this BRASS sponsored program is for 6th grade and up and filled with potentially life-saving information. This 90-minute program will introduce you to the basics of avalanches and risk mitigation. The curriculum is presented by certified avalanche instructors\, Sam Macomber and Anna Marno and includes: \n\nBasic snow science showing how the conditions for an avalanche can take shape\nRed flags that could indicate elevated avalanche danger\nMitigating risk: accessing and interpreting avalanche forecasts\, selecting good terrain\nMaking good decisions\nSafe travel rituals when moving through avalanche terrain\nOpportunities for further education\n\nOur goal is to provide you with a basic understanding of the risks you can encounter\, and how to mitigate that risk. DESCRIPTION: The Youth Sports Alliance is excited to partner with the Lindsey Vonn Foundation\, and The Winter Sports School for this inaugural hands-on\, high-energy workshop focused on building confidence\, grit\, and leadership. Through interactive activities\, small group discussions\, and personal reflection\, students will explore what it means to lead with strength\, push through challenges\, and believe in themselves. The workshop will be co-facilitated by Lindsey Vonn Foundation Youth Ambassadors and mentors from the Winter Sports School\, offering a peer-supported space for growth and connection. Grab a friend\, or two\, and join the Park City Curling Club for a fun evening learning the sport of curling. The first part of the session will cover a bit of history\, safety\, stone pushing\, sweeping and team strategies. Then the fun begins as students are grouped into teams and hit the ice to put what they’ve learned into action! \nWhen: Thursday\, October 13th \nTimes: 4:30 – 7:00pm \nWhere: Park City Ice Arena \nGrades: 6th – 12th \n***No transportation is provided.*** \nRequired clothing: \n\nClosed-toed athletic shoes or vans. No cowboy boots\, high heels or flip flops.  Please clean the bottoms of your shoes off so dirt isn’t tracked onto the ice.
