Students will learn the basics of climbing techniques as well as learning how to safely climb in an indoor environment. Along with climbing\, they will learn how to tie into harnesses and climb on rope\, climbing technique\, equipment\, safety\, problem solving\, trust\, teamwork\, strength and endurance\, along with so much more. \nTransportation is not provided. DESCRIPTION:What You and Your Athlete Will Learn: \n\nChannel Nervous Energy: Transform pregame jitters into excitement and focus.\nAddress Fear of Failure: Build confidence to perform freely without fear of mistakes.\nTackle Perfectionism: Learn to embrace imperfections and focus on progress\, not perfection.\nStrengthen Parent-Athlete Relationships: Learn some tips for how parents can support and encourage resilience in their athletes\n\nThis presentation is recommended for parents\, coaches\, administrators and middle school to collegiate athletes. \nDr. Michael Larson is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist specializing in performance psychology\, concussion\, and traumatic brain injury. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology from the University of Florida in 2008. Since then\, he has led the Clinical Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology Lab at BYU\, where he researches cognitive performance\, rehabilitation\, and mental health. Dr. Larson has served as a mental performance coach for BYU Basketball and consulted with Kentucky Basketball\, using his expertise to help coaches and athletes improve their mental game and resilience. He currently teaches Sport Psychology at BYU and provides assessment and performance psychology services through his private practice and collaborations with BYU Ph.D. students. Dr. Larson has published over 145 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He enjoys helping youth athletes and their families build mental skills to boost success and make sports more enjoyable. \nDr. Matthew Seeley\, a BYU professor of human biomechanics\, specifically with applications in physical activity and sport is behind the Strong Youth Project\, which is designed to create positive experiences in youth sports and improve the overall health of young people by decreasing the likelihood of obesity\, cardiovascular disease\, diabetes\, depression\, anxiety\, and other common challenges our youth now face. \n

DESCRIPTION:Experience all the sports offered inside Woodward’s world-class facility including trampolines and parkour\, or skateboarding\, scooter and BMX riding.  Students can choose to participate in either acro (trampolines and parkour) or wheeled-sports (skateboarding\, scooter\, or BMX) with Woodward coaches.  All abilities welcome. \nVolunteers will be needed in order to provide transportation: A volunteer for Lead Chaperone will receive a sizable discount on one (1) child’s registration. Please select the lead chaperone ticket or contact jjohnson@ywsa.org with questions. This person will need to ride the bus each week. An additional bus chaperone may be needed to assist the lead each week if we have more than 20 students. SUMMARY:Wasatch and North/South Summit - ACTIV8 and Get Out & Play UOP Nordic Jumping Sponsored by Kodiak
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT! Skiers must be at a MINIMUM of an intermediate level to participate in this program (i.e.\, must be able to parallel ski on blue runs or above). \nThis is an introductory course that takes place at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) for students in grades 3rd-7th who are intermediate skiers and looking to learn how to nordic jump. Students will be introduced to nordic jumping through instruction provided by Park City Ski and Snowboard (PCSS). Skiers will spend their time on our small nordic jumps and progress from the landing hill of the smallest jump (10M) and have opportunities to progress to the 10M\, 20M and even 40M ski jump. This program can be done on any alpine skis (poles are not used).  \nProgram fee: $180; $140 without transportation \nThe program fee includes UOP pass\, instruction and transportation \nDates: Mondays\, Feb. 24\, Mar. 3\, 10\, 17 \nTime: 3:30 – 5pm  \nGrades: 3rd-7th \nTransportation:  \nWasatch – Parents/Guardians will drop off students at the Southfield parking lot (by the skatepark) to meet the chaperones to go up to the UOP by bus at 2:45pm and pick up in the Southfield parking lot at 5:30pm. \nNorth Summit/ South Summit- transportation will not be provided. DESCRIPTION:Experience the sports offered inside Woodward’s world-class indoor facility including trampolines\, parkour\, skateboarding\, scooter and BMX riding. All abilities welcome. Students will choose wheeled sports (skateboarding and scooters) or parkour/acrobatics as their focus. \nTransportation is provided from Daniels Canyon\, Old Mill and JR Smith elementary schools. \nDates: Monday\, Feb. 24\, Mar. 3\, 10\, 17 \nTime: 2:30- 5:30pm \nAges: 1st-5th grade (we cannot accommodate kindergarteners) \nProgram Fee:  $180 (standard)\, $50 (scholarship)\, $50 (bus coordinators) \nThe Program Fee includes transportation and instruction. \nStudents will meet the volunteers after school in a specified area. Students then board a bus for transport to Woodward Park City where they will have a lesson with their instructor. Once the lesson is completed\, students are transported back to JR Smith\, Old Mill and Daniels Canyon elementary schools where parents/guardians will pick them up. \nVolunteers: The entire program is parent supported and chaperoned\, so please do your best to assist! To make this program happen affordably we need parent volunteers. DESCRIPTION:The Get Out & Play Intro/Progression to skiing or snowboarding program will give kids the opportunity to learn and progress their skiing or snowboarding skills alongside their peers. This program is for those who are brand new to skiing/snowboarding or at a beginner/ beginner-intermediate level. This program is based on our unique partnership with Woodward. \nThis is a program for North Summit students 1st-4th grade. The program begins immediately after school with students gearing up with the help of their guardian and/or parent volunteers. Students will take YSA provided transportation to Woodward where they will have a two (2) hour lesson with their instructor. Once the lesson is over\, students will be brought back to the school to be picked up. \nVolunteers needed! The entire program is parent supported and chaperoned\, so please do your best to assist! To make this program happen affordably\, we need parent volunteers. A volunteer for Lead Chaperone will receive a sizable discount on one (1) child’s registration. Other volunteer positions include an additional bus chaperone. To volunteer\, please either select the Lead Chaperone ticket or click HERE to see bus chaperone slots. DESCRIPTION:Parleys and McPolin Program \nImportant\, due to the terrain your child must be an intermediate level and capable of blue runs. \nFreestyle introduction for skiers and snowboarders in our terrain parks includes park etiquette\, transitions\, and small features; accessed from our moving carpet conveyor. Advanced freestyle students learn tricks on rails\, jumps and in the halfpipe following safe progressions and will move frequently between chair access zones and moving carpet conveyer access zone.  All students learn from our professional Woodward coaches and use our progessive terrain parks. \nDates: Feb 7\, 14\, 28 & March 7 \nScholarships:  \n\nRegular scholarships are available for students with families earning less than $50\,000 annually. Just select a Scholarship ticket below to complete the registration process for your child.\nPartial Scholarships are now also available for families earning between $50\,000 and $120\,000 annually. To apply for a Partial Scholarship\, please complete the application linked here to help us understand your financial challenges.\n\nVolunteers: Volunteers for School Coordinator will receive a sizable discount on one (1) child’s registration. DESCRIPTION:Cross country skiing is a great way to build fitness and enjoy being outdoors with friends\, and the Get Out & Play – Cross Country Skiing program is specifically designed to build ski skills and confidence in a fun environment! The sessions are intended for students who want to learn the fundamentals of cross country skiing through games\, drills\, and skiing with peers. \nGrades: 1st – 5th \nDates: January 31\, Feb 7\, 14 \nTime: 1:15pm – 3:00pm leave school at 12:45 \nVenue: White Pine Nordic Center. \nTransportation is provided for this program. \nScholarships:  \n\nRegular scholarships are available for students with families earning less than $50\,000 annually.
