DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance\, Lindsey Vonn Foundation\, and Winter Sports School are excited to once again partner for Grit & Guidance\, an interactive workshop designed to help students build confidence\, resilience\, and leadership skills both on and off the field of play.  Grounded in the Lindsey Vonn Foundation’s social-emotional learning curriculum\, participants will engage in hands-on activities\, small-group discussions\, and guided reflection as they explore what it means to navigate challenges\, persevere through setbacks\, build healthy relationships\, and lead with confidence. Each workshop is co-facilitated by Lindsey Vonn Foundation Youth Ambassadors and Winter Sports School student mentors\, creating a supportive\, near-peer environment where students can learn from young leaders with shared experiences.  To better support students at different developmental stages\, this year’s workshops will be offered as two separate sessions:  Grades 3–5 | October 2 | 3:15–5:00 PM & Grades 6–8 | October 9 | 3:15–5:00 PM.  All participants will receive a welcome bag and a guided reflection journal to continue building confidence\, resilience\, and leadership beyond the workshop.\n\nPartial Scholarship Availability.  We want to provide the opportunity for as many kids as possible to participate in our programs. DESCRIPTION:Experience all the sports offered inside Woodward’s world-class indoor facility including trampolines\, parkour\, skateboarding\, scooter and BMX riding.  Students will choose Wheeled Sports (skateboarding\, scooters and BMX) or Acro (parkour and trampolines). SUMMARY:ACTiV8 Art Class: Pushing Boundaries with Morgan McCue
DESCRIPTION:Creative expression is infinite and there are no boundaries.  There is no better way to illustrate that\, than by trying different forms of art from around the world and across history. From Gyotaku (traditional Japanese fish printing)\, to Pop Art\, students will explore their own creative expressions through the lens of four\, very different art styles. The class will allow students to try different techniques\, while learning about their historical context. At the end of the fourth and final class\, we will host a gallery show for friends and family. Students will be encouraged to give a brief presentation on one of their favorite pieces/processes. DESCRIPTION:Whether your child is skating for the first time\, or has skated multiple times\, this is a great introductory program to many different aspects of skating. The first week will focus on the basic concepts of skating\, falling and how to get up. Kids will be divided up into groups and rotate through different stations that will teach specific skill sets\, play games and allow for “free skate” time.  Each of the following weeks will  focus on a specific type of skating\, including figure skating\, hockey and speed skating (or other fun activities). \nThere will always be something different to challenge the kids\, regardless of ability (with the exception of the highly skilled skater.) Keep in mind that that this program also focuses on “Fun On Ice” to get the kids out on the ice skating and having a good time with their friends. This program is not intended to be a supplement to strict club training. \nDates: November 20\, December 4\, 11\, and 18th \nTimes: 1:30pm – 2:45pm (Time on ice\, does not include transportation to and from school). \nLocation: Park City Ice Arena \nTransportation is provided.  \nVolunteers:  Our programs rely on parent volunteers to help chaperone each program. Participate in the Junior Instructor Program\, sponsored by YSA and the Professional Ski Instructors of America – American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI).  \nLearn what it’s like to work as an instructor and earn a nationally-recognized certificate that can open the door to teaching at a local resort.  \nTo participate in this course you MUST complete all sessions.\nDates: \nClassroom at Park City Library – 2 Mondays\, November 23 & December 7th from 3:15-5:15pm \nOn Snow at Park City Mountain Village – Saturday\, December 19th (9:00-4:00pm)\, Saturday\, January  9th (9:00am-4:00pm) \nShadow at least 5 hours of lessons at the resort’s Ski and Snowboard School \n\nAvailable Shadow Dates\n\nTaking Part In This Program:  \n\nMakes you a better skier or snowboarder \nConnects you with others who share your snowsports passion \nHelps you develop important career and life skills\, such as: Communication\, Dedication\, Discipline\, Independence\, Instruction\, Leadership\, Group management\, Professionalism\, Public speaking\nGives you a solid foundation of skills to help you work in the snowsports industry during and after high school. \n\nProgram Requirements \n\nParticipate in 4 hours of classroom learning including three online learning units. \nComplete a 12-hour training course on snow at a local resort. Lift tickets will be provided for on snow sessions.\nShadow at least 5 hours of lessons at the resort’s ski and ride school.\nDemonstrate a minimum sliding ability in 2 areas:\n\n1) Must show the ability to safely ski or ride in a group on blue terrain.\n2) Must have the ability to maneuver safely in a learning area and around all surface lifts or up/down hills and trails.\n\n\nComplete the course portfolio and have it signed by a snowsports supervisor.\nWrite and submit a letter of intent that describes why you want to become a snowsports instructor. Students will have the option to apply for a seasonal position as a Junior Instructor at the host resort after completing this course.\n\nOption for employment with Park City Mountain (subject to interview). DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited for this brand new program opportunity and to team up with Salt City Swords\, an organization dedicated to teaching fencing and swordsmanship. \nDates : Fridays December 4\, 11\, 18 \nTime: 1:40 – 4:15 (Instruction will be from 2:30-3:30 PM at Salt City Swords) \nLocation :  Salt City Swords – transportation will be provided from Ecker Hill and back \nDiscover the excitement of fencing\, one of the fastest and oldest sports in the Olympics! This four week course will cover the basics of modern-day sword fighting\, including footwork\, blade work\, rules\, etiquette and basic tactics.
