DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited to offer a four-week introduction to boxing program with Rise Boxing for 6th-12th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program. \nDates: Mondays\, Mar. 23\, Apr. 6\, 13\, 20 \nTime: 1:30-2:30pm \nLocation: Timpanogos Middle School \nStudents will learn the fundamentals of boxing in a supportive and encouraging environment through 3 weeks of 1 hour sessions. The session will cover footwork\, punching technique\, combinations\, rules of boxing and application of the sport. Students will develop skills in a non-contact environment that will give them an understanding of the sweet science. Students will get to see the discipline and skill required for boxing in a safe and controlled environment and will develop a base level of skill over the course of the session. \nScholarship Availability:  We want to provide the opportunity for as many kids as possible to participate in our programs. DESCRIPTION:The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) is excited to offer a four-week art class at Timpanogos Middle School for 6th-12th graders as part of the ACTIV8 Program with Morgan McCue. \nDates: Monday\, Oct. 28\, Nov. 4\, 11\, 18 from 1:30-3:00pm \nLocation: Timpanogos Middle School \nNo Rules 2.0: Reinventing Reality Through Interactive Art: When I asked my last class to define Street Art\, words like “vandalism”\, “illegal” and\, graffiti” were thrown around.  This is interesting because Street Art in its contemporary form has largely separated itself from these stereotypes.  Cities have embraced urban expression by commissioning huge murals and celebrating flash art and unsanctioned installations. This class will focus on present-day influencers like CJ Hendry and her Pink Chair project\, Kobra and his iconic murals\, and Wasatch Back’s own vibrant street art scene. I will challenge students to see the physical world as a creative playground by bringing in odd materials each week to work with.  The end goal is to transform the classroom into a group installation inspired entirely by their own unique ideas and impulses. On the last day\, friends and family will be invited to attend the opening (and closing) of the exhibition. The goal is to inspire and empower students to think outside the box and value their own unique expressions. \nScholarship Availability:  We want to provide the opportunity for as many kids as possible to participate in our programs. Team SoHo in school Roller Ski Program is designed to get kids outdoors and having fun on skis. If you’re curious about roller skiing and want to learn more\, this is the perfect opportunity. Soldier Hollow will provide all the necessary gear—roller skis\, boots\, helmets\, and poles. Participants will enjoy roller skiing on grass and pavement\, playing games\, and learning fun\, technique-based drills. \nYou must fill out this Soldier Hollow waiver BEFORE the program begins. DESCRIPTION:Dates: Monday\, November 28\, December 5\, 12\, and 19 at 1:30-3:00pm \nLocation: Timpanogos Middle School \nIn this course\, taught by photographer and film producer Jake Sorensen\, kids will learn the technical basics of the camera and how to bring their creative vision to fruition. In this course\, they will learn: \nHow to use manual mode to create an evocative image.How shutter speed\, aperture\, and image composition work together.How to recognize and take advantage of beautiful natural light. \nIn this course\, they’ll develop the skills and confidence they need to go out and take great photos.  \nCameras will be provided for this program but if you have your own DSLR camera you are welcome to use it. You must fill out this camera lease agreement and return it on the first day of class.  \n  \nNEW! Partial Scholarship Availability.  We want to provide the opportunity for as many kids as possible to participate in our programs. If you earn less than $50\,000 annually\, please select a Scholarship ticket to complete your registration. If you earn more than $50\,000 annually but less than $100\,000 annually and the registration fee is a burden for your family\, you may qualify for a partial scholarship. Please complete the Partial Scholarship Application linked here to help us understand your financial challenges. The information you choose to share with us is confidential and will be used only for purposes of determining your eligibility for a partial scholarship. SUMMARY:ACTiV8 Cooking EATS Classes at Timpanogos Middle School
DESCRIPTION:Youth Sports Alliance is excited to offer EATS cooking classes at Timpanogos Middle School in January. EATS fosters learning to eat nutritious foods through teaching cooking skills and expanding palates. In this series of four classes\, expect to cook delicious food while learning knife skills\, how to read a recipe\, measuring techniques\, and how to artfully flavor the dishes you create.\n\nThe session will take place March 28th\, April 4th\, 11th and 18th.\nEach session will be on Mondays from 2:30 to 4:00.
