SUMMARY:Weilenmann; UOP Nordic Jumping and Freestyle/Freeski 2027
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT! Skiers must be at a MINIMUM of an intermediate level to participate in this program (i.e.\, must be able to parallel ski on blue runs or above).  Please reach out to us if you have questions regarding ability level before registering. This program is for grades 2nd-8th. \nThis program is an introduction to freestyle/freeski and nordic jumping that takes place at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) for students who are intermediate/advanced skiers or riders. Participants will get the opportunity to try both nordic jumping and freestyle/freeski. Instruction provided by Park City Ski and Snowboard (PCSS). \nFreestyle/Freeski: Explore the terrain parks and mogul courses at the Utah Olympic Park\, the training grounds of the US Ski Team\, with knowledgeable and experienced coaches from PCSS’s Freestyle All Skills Team. Intermediate skiers will ride a range of freestyle/freeski terrain as an introduction to slopestyle and mogul disciplines. Athletes will learn and hone basic skills in the following areas: skiing switch (backwards)\, sliding rails and boxes\, hitting various sized jumps (incorporating basic tricks like grabs and spins when ready)\, and maintaining an aggressive stance while finding rhythm in an entry-level competition-style mogul course. \nNordic Jumping: Experience the thrill of ski jumping in a safe and controlled environment. Skiers will spend their time on our small nordic jumps and progress from the landing hill of the smallest jump (10M) and have opportunities to progress to the 10M\, 20M and even 40M ski jump. You’ll learn the basics of this sliding sport and be sent headfirst down the smooth ice track at speeds\naround 50mph! Come prepared with gloves and an adventurous mindset to begin your journey as a skeleton\nathlete and you’ll leave the park changed by this unique and unforgettable experience. The skeleton\nprogramming at the UOP serves as an entry point into US Olympic athlete development programming and\nyou can continue on this path right here in Park City.\nThe program runs for 4 consecutive Fridays with registered participants sliding on all four of the dates. After\nthe program concludes athletes are then welcome to continue training with the UOP Junior Sliding Program\n(meets on Wednesdays and Saturdays).\nEquipment: The Utah Olympic Park will provide skeleton sleds\, helmets and elbow pads. YOU will need to\nbring clothes to slide in: Lower body- spandex tights\, sweats or track pants preferably with tapered legs.\nUpper body-outer layer sweatshirt that is somewhat abrasion resistant\, without hood and not too baggy-\nbasically clothes that can get damaged. NO EXPOSED SKIN. Also\, please bring a beanie\, gloves\, and warm jacket and pants for track walk.\nTransportation: Transportation to the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) and athlete pick up from the UOP after\nsliding will need to be done by parents. All athletes (students) need to be at the UOP by 2:00pm. They will\nslide from 2:30-3:30pm and be available for pick up at 3:30pm. Parents are gladly invited to stay and watch.\nDirections: All participants will meet at the Bobsled/Skeleton finish dock. Once you drive to the UOP\, pass the\nMuseum on your left and follow the road towards the bobsled track. When you come to a gate (2554#)\nproceed around the road and the bobsled track will be on your left side. Keep following the road until you\ncome to a parking lot on your left. SUMMARY:Wasatch and Summit- ACTIV8 and Get Out & Play UOP Ski Jumping
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT! Skiers must be at a MINIMUM of an intermediate level to participate in this program (i.e.\, must be able to parallel ski on blue runs or above). \nThis is an introductory course that takes place at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) for students in grades 3rd-7th who are intermediate/advanced skiers and looking to learn how to nordic jump. Students will be introduced to nordic jumping through instruction provided by Park City Ski and Snowboard (PCSS). Skiers will spend their time on the small nordic jumps and progress from the landing hill of the smallest jump (10M) and have opportunities to progress to the 10M\, 20M and even 40M ski jump. This program can be done on any alpine skis (poles are not used).  \nProgram fee: $185; $145 without transportation \nThe program fee includes UOP pass\, instruction and transportation \nDates: Mondays\, Feb. 22\, Mar. 1\, 8\, 15 \nTime: 2:45-5:30pm (on-hill instruction 3:30-5pm) \nGrades: 3rd-7th \nTransportation \n\nWasatch Transportation:  Wasatch County students will have bus transportation to and from Utah Olympic Park. Pick-up and drop-off at South Field Park (at the skate park parking lot). The bus will leave at 2:45pm. \nTransportation is not provided from other schools. Please purchase a no transportation ticket if driving your student. \n\nUOP Waiver: Please complete the UOP waiver either during or after you’ve finished the registration process at the following link:  Utah Olympic Park Waiver. Your child will not be able to participate until the UOP waiver has been completed. \nRegistration Deadline: Registration will close on January 3rd. Scholarship registration closes November 18th at 7am. If you need a scholarship after the deadline\, reach out to Kate Mapp\, kate@ysausa.org. Standard tickets will close Jan. 30\, 2027. \nParent Support and Volunteer Opportunities: This program relies on parent volunteers! We need help to keep the program affordable\, and volunteering is a great way to participate. All volunteers will need to complete a volunteer form and background check. The link for the background check will be sent after the form is filled out. \n\nProgram Chaperones: Help the program lead and ride the bus to and from the venue for the full program. Background check is required and your ticket will be fully refunded after chaperoning all 4 weeks.\n\nImportant Notes \n\nNo refunds will be issued for bad weather\, illness\, or once the program has started.\nEquipment is not provided (except for full scholarship tickets). If renting equipment\, please do so early. Shops sell out or stop selling season rentals in Nov.
